Poland's Energy Ministry is conducting no analytical works related to a potential consolidation of the Polish oil sector, the ministry said.

"Currently, the Ministry of Energy is conducting no analytical works tied to potential consolidation of the Polish fuel sector," the ministry told PAP Polish news agency.

The comment follows market speculation on a potential merger of oil group's PKN Orlen and Lotos unleashed by comments of Cabinet Minister Henryk Kowalczyk.

Poland should consider increasing its stakes in PKN Orlen and a way to do it could be to merge it with peer Lotos, Kowalczyk told TV Republika broadcaster on Wednesday night.
