EU sees Poland’s constitutional crisis still unresolved
March 24, 2017
The Polish government has failed to dissipate doubts of the European Commission with regard to the Constitutional Tribunal reform, First Vice-President of the European Commission Frans Timmermans said of Poland's answers to the commission’s recommendations in the ongoing rule of law procedure.
The situation has been deteriorating with the appointment of chief justice Julia Przylebska and the marginalization of other Tribunal judges as well as the questioning of the appointment of Supreme Court President, Timmermans said.
Timmermans nevertheless does not intend to trigger article 7 of the EU treaty against Poland in the current situation, as that would yield no positive results.
