"Welcome party" for Tusk at a Warsaw Central Train Station
The nation's major dailies offered front-page coverage and commentary on the Wednesday interrogation of former Prime Minister Donald Tusk by military prosecutors and the happenings surrounding Tusk's train arrival for the meetings in Warsaw. The spectacle was clearly the launch of a presidential campaign by Tusk, the daily Rzeczpospolita said in an editorial. While the happening took on elements of farce, the scene was truly set by governing party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski whose ill-chosen opposition to Tusk's candidacy for European Council President has made Tusk some sort of national hero, even for those who had been turned off by the later years of his term as PM, the daily said. The daily Gazeta Wyborcza also claimed the event was fully political. The investigation concerns terms by which Polish and Russian secret services signed a cooperation agreement for elements of the early investigation of the Smolensk air tragedy.
