Wage growth in March accelerated
April 21, 2017
Poland's wage growth in March accelerated mainly thanks to a delay in the so-called "fourteenth month wage" bonus at coal mining group KHW to March from February and thanks to wage hikes at select retail chains, such as Lidl or Kaufland, Credit Agricole economist Krystian Jaworski said of data released by stats office GUS on Wednesday. For the full first quarter wages grew by 4.5% year on year and acceleration in the coming months is inevitable as employers increasingly struggle to find workers and as wage demands rise, Millennium Bank economist Urszula Krynska said. Wages could also rise on account of a move by the EU to lift visa requirements for the Ukrainians, although for the time being no massive outflow of Ukrainian employees from Poland is expected, PKO BP economists commented.
