Pensions and benefits: indexation stays the same

The Polish government will likely apply at least the same indexation of pensions and benefits this year as last year, social insurance board ZUS president Gertruda Uscinska told the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna in an interview.
Commenting on the Polish pension system, Uscinska stressed the need to prepare for the coming demographic changes. The pay-as-you-go system entails a lowering ratio of last salary to pension, and Poland is already paying out ca. 100,000 benefits which are too low to be considered a pension. Additional solidarity payments may be needed. The retirement age will cease to be an issue in the future, as pension entitlement will come with a certain level of capital collected.
