The Polish government is considering consolidation of hotels and spas owned by state companies into a Polish Hotel Holding, an idea which originated at the Infrastructure Ministry, the daily Puls Biznesu reports citing the ministry’s press office.
The viability of the project is currently being analyzed, the press office said. Requests to draw up lists of properties have been sent, among others, to power producer PGE, natural gas group PGNiG and rump coal miner KW.
Most state companies welcome the idea, as running hotels does not belong to their core operations, unnamed managers are cited as saying. Listed hotelier Orbis CEO Ireneusz Weglowski declined to comment on lack of sufficient details.
KGHM TFI, the asset management unit of copper group KGHM, would like to be the holding leader, a person familiar with the matter told the daily.
