Most Poles (53.7%) would participate in the President Andrzej Duda proposed referendum on admitting refugees and 60.4% of them would oppose the enforcement of the EU’s relocation mechanism, a new poll by IBRiS pollster cited by Rzeczpospolita daily showed. 36.6% of those willing to vote would support admission of refugees within the system.
No comparable polls exist, but a general survey on accepting refugees from March 2016 showed 70% of the population against and only 24% in favor, the daily writes.
A slow change of sentiment is unlikely to affect the government’s rhetoric, though, since the majority of Poles will remain against admitting refugees, especially among the undecided electorate that the governing party PiS wants to attract, Prof. Rafal Chwedoruk commented.
