Blackout this summer?

Poland is facing a threat of power crunch this summer comparable to the one suffered in August 2015, the daily Rzeczpospolita warns, citing the “Summer Outlook 2017” report from the European Network of Transmission System Operators (ENTSO-E).
Problems could occur in the extreme case of extended periods of very high temperatures causing drought. The situation may be the worst in the second half of July, with demand potentially exceeding generation and import capacity, leading to power cuts for large industrial consumers, according to ENTSO-E.
Partly to blame is Poland’s energy policy, the organization claims, pointing to a negligible share of solar power in the domestic energy mix.
Poland’s Energy Ministry did declare it would place more emphasis on solar power to avoid summer power crunches, but that decision is yet to be implemented, Herbert L. Gabrys of the National Chamber of Commerce (KIG) commented.
