Poland managed to survive because its people never lost hope, could never be broken and never forgot who they were, US president Donald Trump said in his speech in Warsaw on Thursday, which attracted a big audience. He went on to praise Poland for meeting the defense spending requirement for NATO member states. "We urge Russia to cease its destabilizing activities in Ukraine [...] and its support for hostile regimes," Trump also said.
Trump and his Polish counterpart Andrzej Duda discussed mainly security issues, Duda said of their one-on-one meeting. The current situation fully justifies the presence of US and NATO troops in Poland, he declared. However, Trump and Duda did not talk about guarantees of this presence in the future. "We preliminarily agreed that I would visit the US next year," Duda also revealed.
America is ready to help Poland and other European countries diversify their energy supplies, Trump said at the Three Seas summit held in Warsaw. We want to create a north-south gas corridor connecting the Swinoujscie gas port with the yet-to-be-built gas port on Krk island in Croatia to guarantee energy security of all countries of the Three Seas region, president Andrzej Duda declared at the event.
Poland has signed a memorandum regarding purchase of the most technologically advanced version of Patriot missiles from the US, defense minister Antoni Macierewicz announced on Thursday. Poland has decided to launch the purchase this week, Trump revealed in his speech later in the day.
