Polish food exporters have made great strides over the past ten years, making the country one of the leading food producers in the EU, the daily Rzeczpospolita writes citing a report by the BGZ BNP Paribas bank.
Polish poultry production jumped by 116%, beef by a third and cereal by 10%. Exports of agricultural produce tripled to EUR 24 billion last year, with wheat exports rising 8 times.
The success story was made possible by the EU entry and EU funds, high global prices of commodities, high production capacity reserves, a weak zloty and low labor costs, BGZ BNP Paribas head of economic analysis Michal Kolesnikow commented.
This year Poland is forecast to produce 30 million tons of grain.
