The Polish government will pay PLN 30 billion for the entire missile defense system to be purchased from the US and has set aside this amount in its budget, deputy defense minister Bartosz Kownacki tells daily Polska The Times.
The US is aware of Poland's spending capabilities in this area, according to the official.
The purchase will involve a broad technology transfer, which will boost the potential of Polish defense firms participating in the offset scheme. "There is a chance that we will be making our own missiles for the Patriot system and other missile defense systems," says Kownacki. Poland will also spend PLN 10 billion on Homar missile launchers on top of the US purchases, he adds.
