Polish cinemas could sell over PLN 1 billion worth of tickets in FY 2017 if H1 trends hold in H2, listed media group Agora's management board member and CEO of its cinema business Helios Tomasz Jagiello said as quoted by the daily Parkiet.
In the first six months of the year cinemas increased ticket sales by 17% year on year to 27.7 million, generating PLN 531.7 million revenues, up 21% y/year on year, the daily wrote citing Boxoffice. pl data. In Q2 alone cinemas sold 10.6 million tickets for PLN 207 million, up 26% year on year and 34% y/y respectively.
The industry had a successful first half of the year, but the question is whether the trend holds in H2, Jagiello said, adding that H2 is usually 2% better than H1 in terms of turnout.
Cinema-going this year has been boosted by a rich movie offer, favorable weather and stabilization of ticket prices, in Jagiello's view.
