Poland had a significant budget surplus at end-June, Finance Ministry insiders told the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
The surplus may have reached PLN 2-3 billion if the central bank (NBP) profit of PLN 8.7 billion was booked that month, mBank's chief economist Ernest Pytlarczyk estimated.
Apart from the record high contribution from the NBP, Poland enjoyed continuous improvement in VAT collection, the daily writes.
June VAT receipts grew by over 15% year on yera to ca. PLN 11 blillion, putting the H1 receipts at nearly PLN 80 billion or more than 55% of the FY plan, the daily claims. FY deficit may be contained within PLN 30 billion, i.e. half the plan, Pytlarczyk forecasts.
