Parafiscal tax offensive?

The Polish government is carrying out a parafiscal tax offensive, the daily Rzeczpospolita writes of a number of legislative initiatives underway.
A capacity market fee added to electricity bills is to finance investments in new power blocks, a fuel fee - construction of roads, a water fee - investments in water management, a media fee - public TV and radio, and a waste management fee is to fuel a special recycling fund.
On top of those quasi-taxes, the government also wants to slap an income tax on commercial real estate and excise on e-cigarettes. Together with the already introduced bank tax, the levies would raise some PLN 25 billion a year, the daily calculated.
All of those quasi-taxes, no matter at whom directed, will eventually be shouldered by consumers, Crido Taxand expert Michal Borowski commented.
