The Polish government reportedly wants to build three smaller nuclear units instead of two bigger ones and secure domestic financing, an Energy Ministry insider told the daily Puls Biznesu, adding decisions on schedule and financing model will be made soon.
The investment is now estimated at much less than the initially planned PLN 50-60 billion, perhaps at ca. PLN 6 billion per one unit. Money is to come from state institutions: listed insurer PZU, the Polish Development Fund (PFR) and power group PGE, the lead investor. Technology provider and contractor will be selected in a tender.
The Polish government is reviewing technologies from Westinghouse, GE Hitachi, SNC-Lavalin Nuclear, Areva, EDF and KEPCO. PGE is currently conducting an environmental study due for completion in H1 2020.
