More childbirths in H1

The number of childbirths registered in H1 2017 increased by over 14,000 year on year to around 200,000, but the data need not mean a change in demographic trends, the daily Puls Biznesu writes citing economists.
The data might include registrations by Poles living abroad, Bank Millennium economist Urszula Krynska noted.
Poles have long postponed having children and that may be coming to an end, leading to a spike in childbirths now, but not necessarily over the longer term, Krynska and her colleague at BZ WBK Grzegorz Ogonek said.
It is also too early to tie the increase with the government's child subsidy program 500+, Ogonek said. Krynska points to availability of daycare as a more important factor in family planning.
