Timber prices stable

The Polish government will likely keep its timber supply and prices stable despite the fact that a record 8.2 million cubic meters of trees were felled during last week's hurricane, i.e. 25% of annual timber output, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes citing the state woods manager Lasy Panstwowe (LP).
Collection of the felled trees will take two years, which means supply will be extended in time, LP's spokesperson Anna Malinowska said.
The timber will be inappropriate for certain industrial applications, for example for construction, but the paper industry and chipboard producers may benefit, she added.
The Polish government may decide to reduce its logging plan for the coming years, keeping supply stable, LP's Slawomir Kulinski noted.
