Juncker on the state of EU
September 14, 2017
Article's tools:

Jean-Claude Juncker
The Polish government may find many elements of the European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker's Wednesday address to the European Parliament on the state of the EU unpalatable, although the EC head will try to strike a middle ground between France's vision of multi-speed Europe and Central Europe's opposition to the idea, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes.
The resulting compromise may involve creating the position of euro zone finance minister, while at the same time offering incentives for joining the monetary union, a person close to the address preparations told the daily. The Commission expects non-euro-zone states to declare their intentions, the individual said.
Brussels may also want to strengthen the European Stability Mechanism. Poland will find itself on the list of EU "problems" along with Hungary, Turkey, Brexit and Russia, an unnamed official close to the matter tells the daily Rzeczpospolita, which reminds of the full list of ongoing conflicts between Warsaw and Brussels.
