National Judiciary Council
The lower house will probably reject president Andrzej Duda's alternative proposal of electing National Judiciary Council (KRS) judges, deputy PM and head of ruling party PiS's coalition partner Jaroslaw Gowin commented for news portal Polsce.pl. All sides involved should try to find an alternative, he believes.
The proposal calls for simultaneous election of all 15 KRS member-judges, with each MP voting for only one candidate.
Reforming the judiciary requires personnel changes in the Supreme Court as many of the court's judges are still "deeply stuck in communist times," Senate Speaker Stanislaw Karczewski told PAP commenting on the judiciary reform proposals submitted by president.
