Over 197.600 Poles submitted motions for assessing their right to pension until September 29, daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna (DGP) reports. This is less than half of the over 400,000 people eligible for early retirement under the new regulations and much fewer than the ca. 330,000 expected to make use of this option by social insurance board ZUS.
ZUS should address ca. 100,000 applications in early October and not all applicants can be sure to receive a positive decision, as a quarter of them are employed and would therefore have to quit their job and get rehired the next day in order to qualify for a pension, according to the newspaper.
A large part of those eligible and still working may postpone filing their applications until the last days of October to collect both their salary and pension payment for the month, which may result in an outpour of applications towards the end of October, DGP writes of ZUS experts' predictions.
