The Polish government wants to set up a sovereign wealth fund by delegating the management of assets accumulated in the demographic reserve fund FRD to a unit of the state development fund PFR, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna found out.
The fund PFR TFI is to be set up on the basis of the recently acquired investment firm TFI BGK, a source tells the paper.
The planned sovereign fund could thus manage over PLN 60 billion, following the expected transfer of 25% of assets currently located in private pension funds OFE, the source says.
The changes should enable a higher return on the assets. The Development and Finance Ministry is yet to reach an agreement on the issue with the Labor Ministry, the source notes.
