In the first opening night of the season, Ludwig van Beethoven's "Fidelio" will be played at the Wroclaw Opera October 14th.
"Fidelio" is a co-production with the Slovenian National Opera in Ljubljana. It is a story of ideal conjugal love, sacrifice, faith in Providence, miraculous salvation and fight against tyranny in the name of freedom and humanity.
Beethoven was never able to establish a profound relationships. All his life he looked for ideal love but he was never destined to experience one. The conceptions of the opera is inspired on Beethoven’s letters to the "Immortal Beloved” which he wrote while staying in the Teplitz health resort in Poland. To this day we do not know who their addressee was.
The uniqueness of the "Fidelio" comes from Beethoven dreaming of writing another opera. Unfortunately, no story, no libretto seemed "serious enough" to him to embark on this creative endeavour, as claims Katarzyna Lisiecka, the author of the monograph about "Fidelio".
