The Polish government could revise the electoral code, increasing the number of constituencies in the election to the lower house to 100 from the current 41, the daily Gazeta Wyborcza writes citing ruling party Law and Justice (PiS) MPs speculations based on the recent declarations of the party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski.
Such a change could give PiS an additional 34 MPs, Jagiellonian University expert Jaroslaw Flis comments. It would also result in a two-party system as the position of bigger parties would be strengthened at the cost of smaller ones, he adds.
Another possible scenario would entail electing 230 Sejm MPs - half of the lower house - based on the current principles, while the remainder would be elected in Poland's 16 regions via voting for a national or regional list, some PiS MPs said.
