Resident physicians on hunger strike have been joined in their protest by representatives of 12 other medical professions, daily Rzeczpospolita reports. The doctors are planning to expand their protest to more cities and start a hunger strike in three of them, according to the newspaper. They demand immediate hike of resident physicians' monthly wages to ca. PLN 4.400 gross, or 1.05 of average salary, launching talks on minimum pay in the healthcare sector and raising healthcare spending to 6.8% of GDP, doctors' trade union OZZL representative Damian Patecki tells Rzeczpospolita.
The government remains adamant it cannot afford such measures. The protest may lead to dismissal of Health Minister Konstanty Radziwill, head of the lower house health committee Bartosz Arlukowicz claims.
