Copper giant KGHM and fuel group PKN Orlen could be interested in building high temperature nuclear reactors (HTR), Parkiet daily writes citing own sources.
Listed chemicals group Azoty expressed preliminary interest in this technology, but deputy CEO Pawel Lapinski underlines that it is only one of many ideas considered within the group.
The technology is expensive, with the cost of a 300 MW reactor estimated at PLN 4-6 billion, but once the reactor is in place, the price of fuel represents mere 5% of costs of energy production.
Experts estimate that a first such reactor could be launched only after 2030. In the coming weeks the energy ministry is expected to present a report on HTR, which will show that the implementation of this technology in Poland is realistic, according to daily’s findings.
