New rare giraffe at Wroclaw ZOO

Today all four species of giraffes in the wild are considered endangered. Hence the growing importance of breeding in zoos and the joy of every birth. The employees of the zoo in Wroclaw received a newborn on October 24th.
Zoo Wroc³aw is a home for reticulated giraffes. This subspecies occurs in north-eastern Kenya and in the south of Somalia and Ethiopia in a few numbers. Recent research has found that only 4,700 individuals in this subspecies remain in the wild, while 28,000 have lived there 20 years ago. That is why it is crucial to maintain breeding in zoos and that is why the birth of every young animal is so important.
Irma came to the world at dawn and turned out to be the highest newborn in Wroclaw, measuring 178 cm. She currently stays with her mother inside the giraffe’s pavilion or on the runway. On a large catwalk, there is her father, aunts, plain zebras, buffalo and ostrich. Irma will there be in the spring when she will be big enough to handle the roommates.
