Poland's budget spending stood at 76% of the FY plan at the end of October, major dailies point out, commenting on end-October budget realization data, which showed a surplus of PLN 2.7 billion.
In the prior year period spending stood at 80% of the plan. Lower spending partly results from subsidy to social insurance fund FUS thanks to rising employment and wages, ING BSK economist Karol Pogorzelski commented.
At the same time, investment spending are lagging behind, Rzeczpospolita daily notes.
Budget surplus starts to become a problem for the Finance Ministry as it raises pressures from other ministries for budget spending increases in 2018, Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily writes citing finance ministry insiders.
If in the remaining two months of the year a very high pace of revenue increase were maintained and Poland kept a tight rein on spending, end-year budget deficit could reach mere PLN 15 billion, according to Rzeczpospolita's calculations.
