Poland's ministers "are thinking about" merging fuels groups PKN Orlen and Lotos, a government insider told Dziennik Gazeta Prawna daily. The recent moves in the area of fuel sector logistics can be seen an introduction to the merger plans, the daily writes of a new strategy for fuel sector logistics infrastructure recently adopted by the cabinet.
The merger would make business sense and generate numerous synergies, mainly in the field of investments, upstream, oil purchases and trade segment, consultancy PwC partner Wojciech Slowinski commented for the daily.
Also DM BOS analyst Lukasz Prokopiuk believes the merger would be beneficial and would translate into a higher margin for the new entity, he said. On the other hand, clients could suffer from higher fuel prices, Prokopiuk added.
