Polish president Andrzej Duda's amicable meeting with his Ukrainian counterpart Petro Poroshenko could harbinger a thaw in the strained relations between the two countries provided that the friendly gestures are followed by deeds, the daily Rzeczpospolita comments after the meeting. Poland and Ukraine should bridge the gaps resulting from their common painful history as Russia is playing this conflict to its advantage, Poroshenko remarked, while striving to secure Poland's consent to increase the number of Polish soldiers in peace upkeeping mission in the civil war-troubled Donbas district.
The Polish side, for its part, proposed building a natgas interconnector that would free Ukraine's of Russian deliveries.
