Poland's media regulator KRRiT angered governing party Law and Justice (PiS) top leadership, including party leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski, with its decision to fine private broadcaster TVN (owned by American media group Scripps Networks Interactive) for its coverage of protests in the country's parliament in December 2016, the daily Gazeta Wyborcza writes quoting the an anonymous official from PM Mateusz Morawiecki's inner circle for the Wirtualna Polska online portal. Morawiecki is also not happy with the regulator's controversial decision, the source is reported to have added.
The KRRiT move has drawn a wave of international criticism towards Poland, including frowns from the US Department of State and the EU institutions, and now KRRiT is "praying for TVN to appeal the ruling" so that the court could officially dismiss the fine, an anonymous KRRiT employee tells Gazeta Wyborcza.
