The Polish government may pay as much as PLN 150 billion for the necessary transformation of its energy generation system, twice the sum from EU aid programs for the sector, energy market expert Herbert L. Gabrys tells the daily Rzeczpospolita.
Annually, Poland might end up spending 1.8 - 2.5% of GDP on energy to 2025, regardless of the diversification model that it ultimately decides to pursue, the chair of the WiseEuropa think tank, Maciej Bukowski, adds.
Polish energy minister Krzysztof Tchorzewski's declaration at the EU Energy Council to gradually back out of coal-dependent investments marks a breakthrough from Warsaw's coal-focused approach to energy, Krzysztof Ksiezopolski from the Warsaw School of Economics (SGH) comments.
