The Polish government could make some considerable savings on the "500+" family support program, in the range of PLN 1-2 bln annually, as the number of benefits paid out is declining, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna writes citing information from local authorities and own estimates.
The number of benefits paid out in 10 biggest cities decreased by 12% in November 2017 as compared with September 2017, while the total value of paid benefits decreased by 6% in the period. Should the number of the benefit recipients fall by 10% within a year, the government could save up to PLN 2.3 billion, the newspaper calculates. Fewer families with one child qualify for the state support under the new regulations, in force since October 2017, as wages are rising and jobs became more accessible, labor minister Elzbieta Rafalska comments for the daily. The number of applications submitted by persons not entitled to the benefit declined, too, Rafalska adds.
