Tillerson with Duda
Polish president Andrzej Duda and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson adopted a roadmap of the near-future actions in the field of economic and political relations, including global security, presence of US troops in Poland and modernization of the Polish army, top presidential aide Krzysztof Szczerski announced following the Duda-Tillerson meeting on January 26. Tillerson expressed his support for the Three Seas initiative, a forum of EU members in Central and Eastern Europe, Szczerski added.
Poland and USA stand together against the planned natgas pipeline Nord Stream 2 as it undermines Europe's overall energy security and stability, while at the same time providing Russia with yet another tool for using energy for political purposes, Tillerson told a press conference during his visit in Warsaw.
The Polish government hopes to conclude a bout of new military contracts with the US "soon", while counting on the involvement of the American industry in the process of modernizing the Polish army, foreign minister Jacek Czaputowicz told the media following his meeting with Tillerson.
Polish ruling party Law and Justice (PiS) leader Jaroslaw Kaczynski and US Secretary of State talked - among other things - about military and economic cooperation, including Poland's planned weapon purchases from the US, as well as regional safety, Kaczynski told a press conference.
