Polish president Andrzej Duda's decision to sign the controversial anti-defamation bill and then send it to the Constitutional Tribunal for further scrutiny is widely praised by the ruling camp as paving the way for negotiating agreement with Israel, the daily Rzeczpospolita writes. The move was also welcomed by Kukiz'15 political movement, as well as by agrarian opposition Polish Peoples Party (PSL), albeit with some reservations, the daily adds.
More importantly, Duda's decision met with a conciliatory gesture from Israel as the Israeli foreign office in a special statement declared its readiness to debate the law with a view to working out correction proposals before the tribunal takes a stand, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna says.
