Lukasz Szumowski
Polish government and resident physicians seem to have buried the hatchet as the new minister of health Lukasz Szumowski promised junior medics pay rises, along with increasing the government spending on healthcare to 6% of the country's GDP as of January 1, 2024, the daily Rzeczpospolita writes.
The government's offer now has to be backed by a budget amendment specifying the sources of the extra money, opposition party Civic Platform (PO')s senator Tomasz Grodzki comments.
Ministerial generosity has alarmed the directors of hospitals as they will be faced with considerable expenses in order to finance resident doctors' hiked salaries, the daily Gazeta Wyborcza adds.
