EC analyses Polish new real estate tax

The European Commission will launch a compliance inquiry into Poland's new tax on commercial real estate this week but will not likely force a suspension of the tax in the mean time, sources tell the daily Rzeczpospolita.
The Commission may consider the tax overly selective given the application to valuations above PLN 10 million, thus skewing market competition.
The commission may also consider the tax a back-door attempt to implement its hoped for big box retailer tax. The Polish government claims it created the tax with its minimum CIT/PIT payments as a response to tax avoidance in the segment.
