Polish retailers are unlikely to close in on foreign rivals operating in Poland following the approaching launch of Sunday trade ban as large players are expected to evade the restriction using loopholes in the legislation, local retail sector representatives fear.
The Polish government will amend the Sunday trade ban law in the case of its continued evasion, labor minister Elzbieta Rafalska recently warned.
Sunday trade ban may give a boost to country's newsstand operators, Gazeta Wyborcza writes. Newstand operator Kolporter has already introduced has already introduced a newsstand format with a limited alcohol offer.
Filling station operators are expected to become top beneficiaries of the ban and PKN Orlen has already passed changes to its statutes allowing for trading grocery items.
