Listed fuel group Lotos believes the announced earlier this week merger plan with peer PKN Orlen is a good idea as it will increase companies' security and state's energy security, CEO Marcin Jastrzebski told a news conference.
"As I've said for many years, I am supporter of the merger of the firms," he said, citing future security of the firms and increased energy security for the nation. "It's good that the works on the merger have been started."
Current plans call only for a replacement of the lead shareholder, not any operational merger of integration, he noted.
Plans being struck by PKN Orlen and the state won't alter strategic directions, the CEO assured.
"Our faith in this strategy doesn't stem from any desire to differ from PKN Orlen, but because we believe it is the best strategy for the firm we inherited and that we wish to lead," he said.
A tweak to the strategy is pending in the coming months, but that is more tied to changes in market environment, he indicated.
