Poland can increase the supply of apartments by 100,000 per year in its housing support program Mieszkanie plus introduced by the government last year, the key leader of the program said in an interview. In order to do it the Polish government has to increase the supply of land plots, possibly via the special-purpose bill postulated by the Ministry of Investments and Development, Wlodzimierz Stasiak of the real estate unit of State Development Bank BGK adds. The government should encourage small investors to invest in REITs to support the move, he says. State rental subsidies will benefit financially troubled tenants, as well as provide guarantees to investors that they will get their return, he notes.
