PiS governing party prepares for elections

Poland's governing party Law and Justice (PiS) wants to step up its efforts to present candidates for mayors in Poland's largest cities soon in order to launch its full-scale campaign for local elections scheduled for this autumn, the daily Rzeczpospolita writes citing anonymous sources within the party. Talks between PiS and other right-wing groupings are likely to end before the turn of March and April, so that PiS top brass could relaunch a national tour in mid-April, the daily found learned. The Warsaw mayoral candidacy could become the bone of contention within the party as PM Mateusz Morawiecki favors the head of his chancellery Michal Dworczyk, a proposal frowned upon by part of PiS, Rzeczpospolita says. Dworczyk is said to have secured the approval of Jaroslaw Kaczynski, too, Gazeta Wyborcza claims.
