Krzysztof Szczerski
The Polish government stands a good chance of ending its judiciary reform-related strife with the European Commission provided the country's opposition ceases to use the Article 7 procedure as a tool of political fight with the ruling camp, top presidential aide Krzysztof Szczerski tells the daily Rzeczpospolita.
The Polish side received no request to give up on the extraordinary complaint to the Supreme Court from EC deputy head Franz Timmermans during his visit to Warsaw, and was only asked to explain the idea in detail, Szczerski says, referring to media reports of the demands addressed at Warsaw by Brussels.
The government is in constant touch with other EU members, seeking their support in case of an EU vote over finding Poland guilty of perpetual violation of the rule of law, he adds.
