Poland faces renewed threats from the EU's Article 7 procedure as the head of European Commission Jean-Claude Juncker claims no grounds to halt proceedings, an endorsement of views of his deputy Frans Timmermans, an EC insider suggests for the daily Rzeczpospolita. Poland's situation looks even graver now that Juncker's right hand Martin Selmayr, formerly a supporter of hushing down the conflict, toughened its stance in the absence of major concessions from the Polish side, the source says.
Poland has so far abstained from making any diplomatic steps to secure support from other EU member states and might be surprised by the scale of criticism from the European partners during the hearing on the state of the rule of law in Poland scheduled for June 26, Rzeczpospolita found out.
