Retail sales slowing down

Poland is facing a slowdown to retail sales growth in real terms, sister dailies Rzeczpospolita and Parkiet wrote commenting data from stats office GUS.
Retail sales grew by 6% year on year on average in real terms in the last three months, the slowest pace since December 2016, the dailies observe. That might point to deceleration in private consumption, a scenario backed by the high base effect, stabilization of wage growth and decreasing employment growth, BOS bank economists say.
On the other hand, private consumption might still be doing well as the GUS data fails to take into account consumer spending in stores smaller than those with at least 10 employees, as well as spending via e-channels, PKO BP economists note.
