PM meets with ousted Supreme Court President

Polish PM Mateusz Morawiecki's unheralded September 19 meeting with ousted Supreme Court President Malgorzata Gersdorf raised eyebrows in Warsaw and Brussels, the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna wrote.
Both sides declined to reveal details of the meeting; however, Gersdorf told the daily Gazeta Wyborcza that PM had not tried to talk her into concessions.
The meeting spurred suggestions that Poland wanted to hush down its ongoing conflict in Brussels, a likely scenario in the light of the fact that the European Commission abstained from sending an official complaint about Poland's judiciary reform to the Court of Justice of the EU. The European Commission might have also given up on the complaint as it did not want to further estrange Poland ahead of the upcoming unofficial EU migration summit, the daily speculated.
