As many as 525,000 Polish firms failed to pay over PLN 3.5 billion in social security premiums in H1, including nearly PLN 1.7 billion owed by some 15,000 firms employing over 20 people, daily Rzeczpospolita wrote citing ZUS head Gertruda Uscinska and data accessed by the newspaper. Some 210,000 of the total are companies employing up to 20 people and over 300,000 are self-employed persons.
The data may signal "the beginning of the end of [Poland's] economic growth" as a part of Polish businesses are apparently failing to benefit from the positive economic situation, employer lobby FPP economist Lukasz Kozlowski commented.
The situation was exposed thanks to the new premiums collection and verification system in force since the start of the year, Uscinska explained.
