The Polish government is interested in repurchasing the remaining elements of its power sector, most notably the power distributor for the Warsaw region from Germany's RWE, three sources have informed the daily Dziennik Gazeta Prawna.
The government could use the pending purchase of RWE by E.ON as its entry point to force a transaction for the Polish unit, insiders said. Poland's Energy Ministry is proposing putting the firm on the list of protected strategic assets for 2019, making any transfer of ownership subject to Polish governmental approval.
Poland used a similar mechanism to ensure that EdF and Engie assets went into Polish hands upon sale.
