The awareness of Auschwitz amongst people in the US skyrocketed on 1-27. Throughout the US, news of the 60th anniversary of the liberation of Auschwitz was huge. But much further, young people all over the US were amazed to realize what happened just 60 very short years ago. Since 9-11, America is understanding Poland more and more. It has taken far too long. I'm sorry. But now the time has come. It is happening faster and faster. Now, more than ever people here want to know why. Why didn't our Government help more? I don't know. I'm sorry. As an American, please forgive me. Why weren't people in the US more aware of the truth when huge numbers of people were already being gassed every day? Why did it go on? Why weren't
the railways to Oswiecim bombed by the Allies? These are questions more on people's minds here now.
