Ancient Vessels
May 11, 2005
Throughout May, Sense restaurant is hosting Chulucanas-an exhibition of ceramics made by descendants of the ancient Vicus culture from South America. The people who used to live on the coast of today's Peru were excellent potters. Their clay vessels featured many natural and religious symbols. Artists whose works are on display at Sense used the two-millennium-old technique, their ceramics hand-polished with volcanic rocks and decorated with mineral dyes and ancient patterns. The collection of bowls, fruit bowls, vases and figures shown in the restaurant's two rooms represents the heritage of the pre-Columbian art of Vicus, enriched with more diverse shades obtained in natural ways with products employed in the second firing.
