Kaczyński Wants to Attend Moscow WWII Memorial
President Lech Kaczyński wants to attend Russian commemorations in May marking the 65th anniversary of the end of World War II, in a move that would help thaw chilly relations between Warsaw and Moscow.
“The president would like to go to Moscow, but not at all costs,” said a spokesman for Kaczyński.
“He would like to avoid the situation that occurred when former president Aleksander Kwaśniewski went to Moscow for the same occasion in 2005 and was humiliated by the Russians because they did not mention Poland’s contribution to the victory over Nazi Germany."
