Macierewicz Heads Parliamentary Team to Investigate Smolensk Tragedy

Antoni Macierewicz
Antoni Macierewicz, MP from main opposition party PIS and former deputy defense minister in Jarosław Kaczynski’s coalition government, will head a special Parliamentary Team called up by PiS MPs to clarify the presidential plane crash on April 10.
Members of the new group include PiS deputies Mariusz Błaszczak and Jarosław Zieliński and PiS senators Stanisław Piotrowicz and Zbigniew Romaszewski.
The task of the team, which had its first meeting yesterday collecting documents, will be to contact relevant institutions and call up “public hearings with individuals who have information about the matter.”
The left-wing SLD party made an appeal PiS to disband the team. According to SLD member and head of the national defense committee Stanislaw Wziatek, the responsibility should lay with his team.
The Polish Justice Minister Krzysztof Kwiatkowski of the ruling party PO stated that the PIS-proposed team had no formal authority under the Polish law.
